NEW FROM ORIN SWIFT
Our 2022 Scattered Stones Red Blend is our creative exploration of the two most fundamental elements of winemaking: nature and nurture.
Nature: Time, geology, and climate are our canvas. They define the realm of possibilities. Across California, we’ve been gifted with a combination rare in its ability to grow. In the Napa Valley, rarer still, we have a place renowned the world over for its ability to produce some of the best wines in the world. And within Napa, there is a plot of land we consider the pinnacle: Stagecoach Vineyard.
It took millions of years of nature doing her thing to create this special place at the top of the Atlas Peak. But, it’s the decades of backbreaking work that nurtured and formed the land into tight rows of 16 different varietals.
For a limited time, all orders over $350 will receive ground shipping included.
Transforming rugged hills into a vineyard is not light work. It took nearly a decade to clear over one billion pounds of volcanic stones scattered across the landscape. The monumental mounds — sculpture-like evidence of the care put into these plots — punctuate the grounds. These are the stones that hold our menus in the Tasting Room. They also are on the bottle; the photograph was captured by Dave, while checking on the progress of the grapes.
This vineyard has been foundational to Orin Swift since we started; it’s one of the first growers we partnered with. From Trigger Finger and Double Take to our iconic Papillion and Mercury Head, they’ve been with us for many of our favorites. In 2022, our initial tastings surprised even us. The fruit was so impressive we decided to create a vineyard-designated wine for the first time in over a decade. The blend of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Grenache highlights the true potential of Stagecoach.
Scattered Stones is our creative exploration of the two most fundamental elements of winemaking: nature and nurture.
Scattered Stones pours a staining deep purple core with a velvet, neon crimson rim. Aromatically, the wine opens with notes of wild blueberry, lamb tagine, black pepper, earth, morel mushroom, and a decadent chocolate mousse. Rich and enveloping on entry, the palate is rife with black plum, blackberry compote and more blue and black fruits, followed by weighty texture and satiating tannins. The wine slowly closes at length with a hint of blackberry turnover and a bright acidity that keeps the palate fresh.
If white is more your thing, try our new Napa Valley Chardonnay aged in firebent French Oak.
The Sticks and Stones pack is an exploration of the elements and is inspired by the details that define the process of winemaking. Each pack consists of an even split of our two newest wines, available in 2, 4, or 6 bottles.
