2016 MANQUÉ ®
A vivid rim with a deep ruby core in the glass, the 2016 MANQUÉ Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru initially displays piercing aromas of wild raspberry, smashed pomegranate and freshly harvested rhubarb. As the wine develops in the glass, additional notes of cherry tomato and musk emerge. On the palate, red fruits continue to dominate as well as an expressive minerality. Lively, youthful and energetic, the wine closes on a high note with refreshing acidity, soft oak tannin and the recognition of long aging potential.
100% Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru (Gevrey-Chambertin, Côte d’Or, Burgundy)
Vineyard Notes:
Mazis-Chambertin, one of the smallest and most prestigious Grand Cru vineyards in Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits region of the Gevrey-Chambertin AOC. This iconic vineyard has shallow, clay limestone soils planted entirely to Pinot Noir. Severe spring frosts significantly reduced the crop in Burgundy in 2016, but the quality was very high. Following a humid spring, sunny and dry weather mostly followed with warm days that helped to ripen the fruit and cool nights that served to preserve grape acidity. 2016 lent to lower yields, and the wines are of exceptional quality showing the perfect balance of ripe fruit and bright acidity.
Wine Notes:
Grapes for this wine were hand-harvested in late September. The wine was aged for 20 months in French Oak barrels (33% new).
