2017 MANQUÉ ®
With shades of plush and deep ruby tones, the wine proudly opens with mélange of bright red fruits, pressed violet, framboise, pomegranate and stewed strawberry. Steadily with exposure, the nose begins to reveal a compelling perfume of briar, all spice, cinnamon, forest floor, porcini mushroom and crushed limestone. The palate showcases power and focus instantly with Bing cherry headlining supported by a cast of succulent berry fruits. Middleweight opulence soon follows with a highly refined mouth feel of sanguine acidity and sappy tannins that are silky, round and redolent of its superb soil signature. Lingering indefinitely, its voluminous and elegant flavors continue to please and surely offer the opportunity to cellar for many years.
100% Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru (Gevrey-Chambertin, Côte d’Or, Burgundy)
Vineyard Notes:
Mazis-Chambertin, one of the smallest and most prestigious Grand Cru vineyards in Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits region of the Gevrey-Chambertin AOC, has shallow, clay limestone soils planted entirely to Pinot Noir. Spring frost kicked off the 2017 growing season, damaging some vines in parts of Burgundy. Summer, however, was mostly warm and dry with the occasional rainfall and a few days of heat spikes, resulting in ripe and fleshy wines of high quality.
Wine Notes:
Grapes for this wine were hand-harvested in early September. The wine was aged for 16 months in French Oak barrels (50% new).
